Our cottage was originally part of the 'British School' and later became cottage accommodation serving the flourishing mining community. During our restoration we were delighted to find two Victorian fireplaces intact and were later particularly thrilled to discover the original terracotta floor buried under various layers. One of the main legacies deriving from its origins as a school are the large windows. Taking advantage of the elevated position this gives the outlook over the forest and brings lots of natural light, often ending with spectacular sunsets. Our ethos is to be as ‘green’ as possible and we use energy saving lighting, solar panels and have insulated the whole cottage to a very high standard (you will be able to view our album of restoration photographs with the information files in the cottage). We provide details of recycling and energy saving tips. The small room to the back of the property is particularly cheerful when it catches the morning sun. The large window here looks over the cottage garden and into a particularly fine stand of oaks beyond.
